Mission Statement

To enable persons with developmental disabilities who have significant needs to live and work as contributing members of the community through individualized advocacy and support.

Unique or Distinctive Qualities

SEEC is a parent created, community based organization providing the most progressive services models in the system. Its current focus is on person-centered planning and utilizing the customized employment model. This will assist people with developmental disabilities to decide what they want for their life and support in making it a reality

Discuss How Your Agency Has Utilized The "Ask Me!" Survey Results

SEEC's Quality Assurance Committee - which is comprised of staff, parents, Board members, and people who receive services - is in the process of analyzing the latest "Ask Me" results and how to utilize it to improve the quality of services.

The "Ask Me!" Survey Results is available for the general public

Describe your quality assurance practices, including any agency accreditations.

SEEC's Quality Assurance Committee meets on a regular basis to discuss, review, and plan activities that will ensure a high level of services for the people to whom supports are provided. The committee Chair reports to the SEEC Board of Directors, which is actively involved in the process. SEEC is currently accredited by the national organization, CARF (www.carf.org)

How Does Your Agency Support People In Becoming Active Members Of Their Community?

SEEC is community-based. Employment services, provided in the community, assist employees to learn necessary job skills, interacting with co-workers, and transitioning into new job. On-going support is offered to ensure the individual's job success and the employer's satisfaction. The Community Living program provides the apropriate level of support and assistance to the person to live in the community, in a home they have rented or purchased. Families receive supports so they can remain active in their community as a family unit. Community recreation and leisure activities are utilized by the individual according to their choice.

Steps Individuals Must Take to Apply for Services

Contact the SEEC Silver Spring office to schedule an Information Exchange meeting to present your needs and SEEC's support capacities. SEEC then designs and presents a Customer Service Proposal based on individual needs and desires. Changes to the proposal are negotiated and then finalized with the individual.

Special Considerations/Comments: None.

Funding Sources: Developmental Disabilities Administration, private pay
