Resources for families and guardians

This is a time of enormous change for the individuals who have lived at Rosewood for many years and for their families. The process for closing Rosewood will not be rapid, but rather will require a deliberative process that includes family members and the clinical professionals working closely with each resident.

The establishment of an Essential Lifestyle Plan is the primary tool for identifying the needs and wants of each individual who resides at Rosewood so the individual can choose the most appropriate placement. Families and guardians are also being asked to work with a team of clinical professionals in developing the Essential Lifestyle Plan. Resource coordinators will work with each individual, family member or guardian to find an appropriate placement, tour different locations and fully consider all options.

A clinical assessment of each individual currently at Rosewood determined that the unique needs of each individual can be met in a community placement. Family members and guardians are encouraged to participate in an effort to plan the services needed. If at the end of the process families believe that no satisfactory community placement can be identified, the three other SRCs in Maryland are another option. When Rosewood is closed and a suitable community placement has not been identified, an application for admission may be made to one of the SRCs. Evidence must be provided that this is the only location where the individual's needs can be met before admission will be granted.
