This service is available for eligible non-residents of the Center when
parents and guardians need relief from the care of the individual. Respite
Services help families meet emergency needs and/or fulfill vacation plans.
Responsible, temporary care is provided at Potomac Center to meet these requests
for up to 28 consecutive days subject to overall annual maximum of 45 days.
These include an administration building, maintenance building, activities
building, resident's center and five homes. Approximately 47 people live in the
homes. Bedrooms are arranged and decorated according to the desires of each
individual.
These include residential care, treatment and support services which are
provided by Certified Staff. Individuals select from educational, vocational and
recreational opportunities.
These include activity centers, recreational facilities, religious services
and employment opportunities. Each person can select from an array of options
and is encouraged to participate as a member of the community to the fullest
extent possible. A Community Relationships Coordinator assists people living at
the center to form and maintain meaningful relationships in their community.

Center's Social Worker is an integral member of the individuals' progress,
assists people with contacting community services, advocates for individuals'
right, and tracks programming at outside sites. The Social worker coordinates a
person-centered planning process, arranges discharges and provides short-term
follow-ups for people who move to other settings.
These programs are designed according to the individual preference to meet
the wants and needs of each person. Family members and friends are utilized to
help ascertain these preferences and needs in person who are unable to relay
their desires to staff.
These are available around the clock as well as preventive health care, first
aid, and emergency services. Evaluations of special medical needs and diagnoses
are handled through local and national health care facilities and specialists in
cooperation with the staff.

These include diagnostic, testing and evaluation, consultation, therapy and
conducting functional analysis and assessment for program development under the
supervision of a licensed Psychologist. Psychology Associates participate in the
development of each person's total program plan.
These are available for enjoyment, relaxation, and development of motor
skills. A specially equipped swimming pool and gymnasium are located on the
premises. In addition, people participate in their surrounding community by
becoming involved in community activities such as bowling, shopping, movies,
theater, vacations, etc.
These are provided by agreement with a nearby State facility. Three meals and
an evening snack are provided. Well-balanced meals are determined according to
each person's health needs and preferences under the guidance of a registered
dietitian.

These are available to people for a full range of developmental assessment
and personalized treatment. In-service training is given by the therapists to
the support services staff to ensure proper implementation of services in all
phases of daily living.
