Unique or Distinctive Qualities

Resource Connection of Prince George's County, Inc. is a private non-profit agency funded by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Developmental Disabilities Administration, to provide resource coordination services to approximately 1,500 individuals with developmental Disabilities and their families. Resource Connection of Prince George's County, Inc. supports individuals' efforts to explore possibilities to become as included in community life and activities as they desire. Resource Connection of Prince George's County, Inc. values getting to know the people it supports and those important to them, working in partnership to build community connections, and creating opportunities which lead to outcomes that are important to the individual. Resource Connection of Prince George's County, Inc.'s mission: Resource Connections...Building Partnerships and Connections for the Life You Choose expresses the value system and philosophy which underpins all its work. Resource Connection of Prince George's County, Inc. also conducts eligibility interviews assisting individuals applying for services from the Developmental Disabilities Administration. Resource Connection of Prince George's County, Inc. serves Prince George's County Residents and provide information and referral services.

Resource Connection of Prince George's County, Inc. incorporates key findings of the Project into its staff training curriculum. This compliments its emphasis on "self-determination". A Regional Coordinator/Self-Advocate and an Interviewer from the Ask Me Project served as trainers at its initial resource coordinator orientation. Resource Connection of Prince George's County, Inc. continues to work in partnership with the Project to remain focused upon quality of life issues as defined by individuals with disabilities.

Resource Connection of Prince George's County, Inc.'s "Continuous Quality Assurance" Committee monitors and makes recommendations as to mission related outcomes, consumer satisfaction related outcomes, its organizational structure, and regulations compliance. Emphasis is placed upon "Values, Outcomes, and Fundamental Rights" and self-Determination as it relates to the Individual Planning Process. The commmitteeis comprised of self-advocates, family members, provider and community representatives, and staff.

How Does Your Agency Support People In Becoming Active Members Of Their Community?

Resource Connection of Prince George's County, Inc. helps people develop a sense of community through "person-centered planning" so that they can make choices. Resource Connection of Prince George's County, Inc. then advocates to ensure that individuals receive the necessary supports to make meaningful connections in their communities.

Resource Connection of Prince George's County, Inc. also facilitates a "Steering Committee" comprised primarily of individuals receiving services. The members of this committee support one another in an effort to achieve the freedom and authority to plan their lives and to participate in and contribute to their communities. The members also share their learning experiences with friends and peers.

Steps Individuals Must Take to Apply for Services

Referrals are received primarily through the Developmental Disabilities Administration though Resource Connection of Prince George's County, Inc assists with the eligibility process. Resource Connection of Prince George's County, Inc also provides information and referral services to the general public.
