Mission Statement

Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake is a workforce development agency and network of businesses whose mission is to provide career development employment and related social services to assist people with special needs in enjoying the dignity and benefits of work and a better quality of life.

Unique or Distinctive Qualities

Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, Inc. provides training, employment, and family support services to individuals with disabilities or other disadvantaging conditions. In addition Goodwill assists individuals in securing employment, whether permanent, temporary, full-time, or part-time. Clients can receive skills training in several different career fields ranging from clerical/computer and nursing, to hospitality, retail, and custodial.

Goodwill Industries of The Chesapeake, Inc. is licensed by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) to provide vocational services and is operating under the guidelines of an approved Quality Assurance Plan. Goodwill is accredited by the Maryland department of Education, Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) to provide vocational services and, through its STEP division, is a DHMH approved Medical Care Program Provider. The Waverly Family Support center is a part of the State of Maryland Friends of the Family Network and the Bon Secours Family Support Center is part of the Bon Secours Foundation. Goodwill has longstanding partnerships with such noted organizations as the Abell Foundation and the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

How Does Your Agency Support People In Becoming Active Members Of Their Community?

Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, Inc. supports people in becoming active members of the community by offering programs and services directed toward helping its clients achieve a better quality of life and self-sufficiency through work. Goodwill has committed itself to serving the "hardest to place", whether their barrier to employment is a mental or physical disability, a criminal background, chemical dependency, inadequate education, or little to no work experience. Goodwill has longstanding partnerships with many other workforce development agencies throughout the Baltimore metropolitan area, as well as State and Local government agencies, colleges and universities, community and social service providers, and other non-profit organizations that allow a collaboration of services that may help address clients' higher priority needs before they can be considered truly job related.

Steps Individuals Must Take to Apply for Services

To apply for admission into any of Goodwill's programs and services, individuals must complete Intake and Registration at any of Goodwills locations. This occurs at Headquarters on Friday mornings between 8:00am and 11:00am. Most other locations accept new clients by walk-in, referral, or appointment only. Each Location should be contacted directly for more information.
