Mission Statement
Provide a local, non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention and control of epilepsy, and, when appropriate, serve persons with other developmental disabilities.
Unique or Distinctive Qualities
EAES is the only non-profit on the nine county, MD Eastern Shore which specifically serves people with epilepsy. Many of EAES's programs are aimed directly at this population (e.g. kids on the Block, the ID Braccelet Program, the Costanzo Fund, Scholarships, etc.,)
Discuss How Your Agency Has Utilized The "Ask Me" Survey Results.
EAES has primarily used the data to encourage as much community integration as possible. The EAES Board of Directors is extremely interested in providing a wide array of recreational and social outings/experiences.
The 2005 "Ask Me" Survey Results is available for the general public.
Discuss your quality assurance practices, including any agency accreditations
The EAES approved QA Plan focuses on compliance with incident reporting, new hiring and orientation procedures for staff, a survey aimed at individuals and their families pertaining to the appropriateness and satisfaction of its services, and strict adherence to medication certification for its staff.
How Does Your Agency Support People In Becoming Active Members Of Their Community?
The EAES Volunteer Board of Directors (governing body) has 17 members of which 3 are primarily consumers and 4 are secondary members. As stated previously, EAES staff attempt to immerse its consumers in a variety of wholesome activities and experiences in its community.
Steps Individuals Must Take to Apply for Services
All DDA-Funded consumers/families must be referred by the Eastern Shore resource coordination system. Individuals/families related to the specific epilepsy services may call, write, or walk-in for entry into EAES's programs. EAES also have a website and a toll free number for communication purposes.
