Discuss How Your Agency Has Utilized The "Ask Me!" Survey Results.

Chimes shares the results of all surveys including Ask Me, OHCQ, and its internal surveys. The summaries of results for many of these surveys are found in our annual corporate goal report on our website. Anyone interested in reviewing and discussing the results of the surveys should contact Chimes COO, Ed Hartman, Ed.D by phone, 410.358.5535, or by email, . The Ask Me survey that is conducted by the ARC of Maryland may be statistically valid for the State of Maryland, however it is not for individual providers, especially larger providers. The sample size of between 20 to 30 individuals for an organization providing services to more than 500 people provides a confidence level ranging from 17% to 21%. Chimes survey of persons served and their families include 100% of people served and 61% of their families, so that the confidence level is 95% which is consistant with most research.

Describe your quality assurance practices, including any agency accreditations

Chimes uses the Baldridge criteria to assess and improve organizational performance. Chimes has instituted a number of process improvement activities to achieve its goal of being a "Model of Excellence" and the "Employer of Choice." Chimes Maryland submitted applications for the Maryland State Productivity and Quality Award in 2002 and 2004, winning a Bronze medal in 2002 and the Gold medal in 2004. Vocational and employment programs are CARF accredited. There is a full time director who leads the Quality Assurance Program. She and her staff report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and the Programs and Services Committee of the Board of Directors. This committee monitors the services provided, reviews outcomes and oversees the work of standing committees. The vocational programs are CARF accredited and the school is licenced by MSDE.

How Does Your Agency Support People In Becoming Active Members Of Their Community?

Chimes promotes the active involvement of people served in their communities. For example, two people who live together might attend a baseball game while a third goes to a movie. Almost every person has dinner out at least once a week. The resources of the community are limitless and well utilized by all. Fishing, hiking, concerts, the Inner Harbor, trips to Ocean City are but a few. Chimes day programs are set up to utilize the community as a classroom, using "learning theory" which fosters the notion that learning takes place best in the environment it is going to be utilized in. Transportation, mobility, safety, money utilization, and a host of other skills are taught in a variety of community based settings. In the spirit of being good neighbors, people who reside or work at Chimes routinely donate time to foodbanks in their neighborhoods, or other worthwhile causes. Recently Chimes volunteers packaged over 1,000 personal hygiene kits for the citizens affected by Hurricane Katrina. All programs stress full inclusiveness. Chimes has inbred this thinking (philosophy) into all they do. Supports are highly natural and ongoing every day in every program.
