Mission Statement

The mission of NCC is to provide a lifetime of opportunities for people in the community with developmental disabilities to live full, meaningful and productive lives.

Unique or Distinctive Qualities

National Children's Center (NCC) provides services across the lifespan for people with autism, cerebral palsy, brain injuries, mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. In addition to developmental disabilities, many of the people served also have physical disabilities and/or mental health disorders.

Every day at NCC, more than 600 infants, children and adults receive quality, comprehensive services through five major program areas. NCC's Early Intervention Program serves newborn babies and children up to 7 years of age with developmental delays, its Education Program includes three schools for youth ages 5-22 years, its Adult Day Program includes a community-based component, its Residential Program offers group home, supported and independent living options for children and adults, and NCC's Employment Program prepares and places adults in meaningful, paid jobs.

NCC partners with the people served and their families to ensure services are individualized, person-centered, high quality, and meet the needs and desires of the person. NCC eliminates many of the transportation problems encountered by people with disabilities by providing transportation for people in their programs.

Discuss How Your Agency Has Utilized The "Ask Me!" Survey Results.

NCC was pleased to participate in the "Ask Me!" Survey. The survey and its results were used to further train NCC's Quality Improvement and Oversight Committee and NCC managers. NCC also used the survey and its results to improve internal evaluation systems and practices.

The "Ask Me!" Survey Results is available for the general public

Discuss your quality assurance practices, including any agency accreditations

National Children’s Center (NCC) has a Quality Improvement Department that operates an incident management system and supports committees that provide oversight of the quality assurance function including development of behavior plans, review of incidents, recommendations for improved service, protection of individuals’ rights, adherence to best practice, and identification of trends. A satisfaction survey for individuals, parents/families, and other stakeholders is conducted annually. A Quality Improvement Oversight Committee that includes board members oversees this process and provides guidance to the agency.

How Does Your Agency Support People In Becoming Active Members Of Their Community?

NCC supports people in all of its programs to become active members of their community, and NCC staff is committed to providing the skills and experiences that make full community participation and inclusion possible. In NCC's Early Intervention and School programs, community volunteers are present in the classrooms and regular community outings are provided. NCC's Adult Day Program has a unique community-based component so people can volunteer at local nonprofits, giving back while learning valuable vocational skills. NCC's Employment Program matches and supports people in jobs in integrated settings. NCC's Residential Programs are community based, and residents enjoy get-togethers with neighbors and enjoy all of the recreational, social, cultural and religious activities their communities offer.
