Mission Statement

The Arc Of Carroll County supports the efforts of people with cognitive and related developmental disabilities to define and realize their goals in life.

Unique or Distinctive Qualities

The Arc of Carroll County provides extensive support services and a host of local self advocacy options. Through its diverse programs, The Arc of Carroll County can provide Respite Care to relieve family members or other caregivers who have responsibility for daily, ongoing care. Recreation and community activities can also be provided as part of the respite care services. Acre can be provided in one of the Arc's residential homes.

Through the Community Supported Living Arrangements (CSLA), The Arc of Carroll County can provide support to individuals while they continue to live in their own home or apartment, or the home of a family member.

The Family and Individual Support Services Program (FISS) provides a range of creative services designed to enable individuals with disabilities to live more independently or with their families, and to become active members of the community. FISS services include respite care, assistance obtaining adaptive equipment or architectural modifications, transportation and other services.

The Arc of Carroll County's transportation service provides door-to-door transportation for individuals working in community jobs or participating in Arc programs

The Summer Enterprise Program, established by The Arc in 1971, provides a full array of employment services, including Day Habilitation, Work Services and Supported Employment. This program also participates in the County Board of Education's Post Secondary Program and focuses on career exploration and self determination. All eligible programs are CARF accredited.

Through the Arc Self-Employment Program, The Arc of Carroll County has assisted individuals with starting and operating their own businesses.

It is the policy of The Arc that the involvement and input of the people receiving services is an intergral component of the information utilized to structure the program around the needs of the persons served, so that it is responsive to their expectations and promotes their maximum participation in society. The Arc will obtain input from all person served at their annual meetings, or more frequently if necessary. A satisfaction survey is used along with periodic individual and staff meetings to elicit input. The information is submitted in summary form to the Executive Director and the department directors for review and is utilized, if appropriate, to change the policies and/or practices of the organization.

The Arc, interns, volunteers, consultants and contractors strictly adheres to the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA)'s policies on reporting and investigating incidents. The Arc provides a copy of DDA's Policy on reportable incidents, and its procedure, to all employees, interns, and volunteers, as well as to individuals receiving services, their parents, guardians, or advocates.

The Quality Management Committee, ehich is comprised of outside representatives and agency staff reviews all records relevant to internally investigated or serious reportable incidents. This committee meets on an as needed basis but at least once per quarter. Individual served, family members, staff and community members participate on the Human Rights Standing Committee. This Committee is a joint venture between The Arc and the other Carroll County providers who serve people with developmental disabilities. The Committee is comprised of 50% volunteers and 50% professionals.

How Does Your Agency Support People In Becoming Active Members Of Their Community?

The CARF accredited Communiy Living Program creates personalized living arrangements for people with deisabilities by accommodating them in homes located in neighborhoods that provide an environment fostering personal growth and community inclusion.

The family and Individual Support Services are a range of creative services designed to enable individuals with disabilities to live more independently or with their families, and to be active members of the community. These services include respite care, adaptive equipment, personal care, health services, in-home assistance, medical supplies, recreation and transportation.

The Arc operates 72 vehicles providing transportation service to children and adults with disabilities throughout Carroll County. Door-to-door transportation is provided to adults participating in the Arc sponsored programs and to workers engaged in supported employment at jobs in the community. Specially equiped vans and buses are maintained to meet the various needs of the individual.

Personal And Support services provides training and support to individuals by utilizing their strengths, abilities and preferences. This helps to develop skills applicable in daily living, socialization, communication and work; which could lead to opportunities for employment in the community.

Work Services provides paid employment to employees with disabilities through subcontracts with local businesses and industries. The Arc is able to offer customers the option of their work being completed in its 13,500 square foot production facility with a loading dock, or at their localion with its onsite crews. Marketable skills are developed through individualized training in many areas including, vocational skills, safety, and work adjustment.

Community Employment assists individuals with disabilities in obtaining jobs in the community. The Arc's job-coaches provide the necessary on-site training and support to ensure success on the job. Individuals are involved.
